DVD Review: Pitch Perfect 2

On a boring weekend, as I found myself with nothing to do, I picked up the new to DVD COPY of Pitch Perfect 2. The first movie is one of my favorite movies. However, sequels rarely live up to their potential, so I didn’t expect much. Throughout the movie though I was pleasantly surprised.

Pitch Perfect 2 is a movie about growing up and balancing work and fun. Along the way, the Barden Bellas find out who they are and what they want to do with their future.

While getting your fix of drama, you can also listen to different versions of songs that most of us know. The movie was funny and dramatic with a sentimental value to it.

One word I would use to describe this movie would be paradox. This sequel is completely different than the first movie but similar in so many ways.  The primary difference is the film’s focus on the group as a whole rather than the main character, Beca.  The movie’s similarities include Fat Amy’s rambunctiousness, Chloe’s dedication to the teams success and the Barden Belles striving to win an elite singing competition.

Pitch Perfect 2 was a strange combination of humor and sentimentality. It portrayed people falling in love and people discovering who they want to be. We even got surprised by a visit to a graduated Barden Bella who’s career choice is both surprising and realistic. Pitch Perfect 2 was filled with crazy people and the even more crazy things they did. There was a funny man who rode around on a scooter and was very protective of his ducks. There was a passionate one-woman boat serenade and a energetic, ruthless German acapella group. In the end though, things work out for everyone. They find out what and who they want. Bonds form and friend are made. People fall in love and fulfill some life-long dreams.

The best part is, before the sequel even hit the theaters, it was confirmed that there will be a third movie. The plot and release date hasn’t been announced yet but it still gives us something to look forward to.
