One Nail Polish to Change Everything

One Nail Polish to Change Everything

Four students at North Carolina State University are attempting to create a new nail polish. Why on earth would we need a another kind of nail polish you may ask? Well, this one detects date rape drugs placed inside of drinks.

Drugs such as rohypnol and GHB will cause the polish to change colors when it comes in contact with them. The creators call themselves Undercover Colors and announced their product through the creation of a facebook page.

Undercover colors says, “Through this nail polish and similar technologies, we hope to make potential perpetrators afraid to spike a women’s drink because now there’s a risk that they can get caught.”  They continue to say, “In effect, we want to shift the fear from the victims to the perpetrators.”

Drink safe Technologies have made coasters that change colors when a drink is spilled on it if there is a drug in it. They are using the same technologies to create the nail polish. The main issue with the coasters is the amount of time it takes them to change colors.  It could look suspicious not to drink your drink for that amount of time. The nail polish strives to not have this problem.

In the end drug detecting nail polish will be a large advancement for preventing rape.
