Cozad’s Synopsis : Penguins

Penguins are a group of aquatic flightless birds that are found almost exclusively in the southern hemisphere. There are many different types of species of penguins including the Emperor penguin, King penguin, the Macaroni penguin and many others. The first sighting of a penguin dates back to 1497 when members of the Portuguese voyage of Vasco de Gama to India spotted them along the southern coast of Africa. Today there are about 30-31 Million penguins split across 18 different species which has been steadily decreasing over time. It’s no secrete that penguins are excellent swimmers but they also have some other unique facts that you may have not known about. For example, did you know that penguins in Antarctica have no land based predators. Another example is that Little Blue Penguins are the smallest type of penguin, averaging around 33 cm in height while The Emperor Penguin is the tallest of all penguin species, reaching as tall as 120 cm in height.
