Get Your Cougar on for The OU Soonerthon

Although it may sound like a race, the Soonerthon is actually a charity event of the Campus Activities Council at the University of Oklahoma.  The Soonerthon currently consists of three separate events: The Penny Wars, A Bake Sale, and The Bedlam Bash, in which money is raised for sick  Oklahoma children.

The Penny Wars, which began Nov. 3rd, asks sophomore, junior, and senior high school students to collect pennies in a bucket with their class name on it.  These Buckets are located right outside of Mrs. Nelson’s office. Silver change counts against a group. For example, if a sophomore puts a nickel in a junior bucket, the juniors will be deducted 5 points.

Satisfy your hunger at the bake sale beginning November 12. Every Wednesday, there will be a bake sale during the 10 minute break. There will be cookies, puppy chow, and even brownies sold for 1 dollar each.

The Bedlam Bash, beginning December 1, will allow students to purchase crimson (OU) and Orange (OSU) helmets. The type of helmets sold the most will get out for lunch early. The helmets will be sold for 1 dollar each.

The Soonerthon and the Children’s Hospital Foundation have worked together for the past 15 years astonishingly raising more than 1 million dollars for the children. “CHF understands the importance of family during a child’s treatment, and strives to make sure that no child ever has to leave the state of Oklahoma to receive the best medical care possible.” -CHF Last year alone, the Soonerthon raised an amazing $ 318,711.14.
