Cross Country

What is cross country? According to Coach Daniels “Crosscountry is a part of the track program but you dont run on a track, theres no sprinting, it’s all long distance and all terrain.” Cross country requires a lot of dedication, patience, and stamina. Cross country at Ada High consists of running the park route and the Meadow Wood route, which obtains a minimum of two miles. At a meet, girls run two miles while boys are required to run three miles. We asked a few runners what some of their best times are so far. Kate Pottebaum runs a 15 minute two mile, and her sister Grace Pottebaum runs a 14 minute two mile. As for some of the guys, Coleman Dennis runs a 14.23 minute two mile, and Giovanni Gutierrez runs two miles at a time of 14 minutes and 23 seconds.

When interviewing Coach Daniels we asked what his expectations were for the Ada High cross country team of 2013 and if he thinks they have a chance of making it to state. Daniels: ” We should’ve gone to state last year, but if we dont run into any problems, we should go to state.” Some team members gave their input on how they think they’ll do this season. Giovanni Gutierrez expects to be in the top 5 in 5a. Coleman Dennis thinks they’ll take regionals and have a good chance at state. Kate and Grace Pottebaum are excited for the upcoming meets because they think the girls can make state as well.
