Starbucks coffee cup causes quite a stir
The coffee cup controversy
With holiday cheer and cold weather, Christmas is just days away. Though some would confess to not believing in many of the influential figures that represent the holiday, there are those who seem to want to stir up arguments wherever they can.
Many know of the controversy of the infamous Starbucks Christmas cup that has captured internet attention. Starbucks, in years previous, had snowmen and snowflakes and other manifestations of the holiday season. This year, however, Starbucks released their holiday cup with a lack of Christmas or Holiday insignia. The cup is plain red with the green and white Starbucks logo. This decision has stirred up controversy within the Christian community led by a man named Joshua Feuerstein, a former pastor.
Feuerstein is reported saying that Starbucks removed, “Christmas from their cups because they hate Jesus.” Even though before Feuerstein claimed this, Starbucks Vice President, Jeffrey Fields, said the company, “wanted to usher in the holidays with the purity of design that welcomes all of our stories.”
This debate seems like a silly affair and should be treated as such. The underlying reason for this debate stems from the political side of the United States. Nothing says “‘Tis the Season” like a nice political debate between Conservatives and Liberals disguised as an innocent coffee cup.

I completely agree with Marquisha, Christmas isn’t defined by a design on a cup that will be used one time until you dispose of it. I guess it just goes to show that you can’t make everybody happy.

I think that a snowflake, Santa, etc. does not define Christmas. Christmas means way more than just a design on a cup, you’re soon going to through away.
