Healthy changes are under way at Ada High School.  In addition to the fresh new lunch plans, two new vending machines will soon offer significantly healthier snack options.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has recently published and mandated applied nutrition standards for snack foods and drinks being sold to kids across the nation on a school day. This study, along with other recent health acts and organizations such as The Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act, Feeding America and Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move, have all paved the road for these basic healthy ideals. Smart Snack Publications seems to be the regulations building the future of how students experience their lunch hours across the United States.

The pending vending changes are currently without a solid installation date, but the new machines should be comparable in price with current vending options.

“These healthier plans are about the same price as what options we have here now,” said HealthCorps Coordinator, Autumn Yoder.

Although encouraging students to form healthy habits is seen as crucial to some, others such as AHS Junior, Taylor Ryan, are as quick to embrace the new healthy changes.

“The option should generally be left up to the student themselves,” said Ryan.

Ada High’s new healthy snacks will be provided by Fresh Healthy Vending. FHV is largely revered as pioneers of this booming health movement in their industry for their affordable yet convenient fresh food options provided for students and school systems.
