The Legend of the Black Forest

This story begins and ends with the Legend of the Black Forest. Most people haven’t heard of this legend, but those that have, wish they haven’t. It all begins in a forest in Southwest Germany where the presence of evil meets the presence of human curiosity. Twisted and gnarled in shape, the beech trees were a shade of black that smothered and absorbed all light.
A campfire, a scream, and blurry shadows of black figures roaming in the distance, the most ill-fated trip of these unfortunate vacationers will be one adventure they will never forget.

As darkness envelopes the evening sky, Emylia and Maxwell Grace begin to guide Jordyn and Naomi to the hazardous place where it all starts.

“Are we there yet?” Jordyn asked annoyingly.

“We will get there when we get there,” chorused Emylia and Maxwell.

“Yeah, we passed it an hour ago; we are just looking for a parking spot,” stated Naomi sarcastically.

As time flew by and the forest got darker, Emylia and Maxwell, with the help of Naomi and Jordyn, scuttled to get their campsite safely set up. On the other side of the forest, another group of curious roommates Ryder, Charlie, Asher, and Mitchell are leading themselves to their own condemnation.

“Do you really know where we are going?” Charlie curiously asked Ryder.
“No, aren’t you supposed to be the one who is leading us, not me?”

“It feels like we have been walking the same path for ages,” uttered Asher.

“I don’t think we should be worried about how long we have been walking, we should be worrying about where he is leading us,” perceived Mitchell.

While hours have passed lethargically for Mitchell, Asher, Ryder, and Charlie, daylight had faded, and Maxwell, Emylia, Noami, and Jordyn were relaxing around the campfire after the struggle of setting up camp. Being the twins that they are, Maxwell and Emylia take the opportunity to tell of an old legend that has passed down through their family throughout generations.

“In this very forest, The Legend of the Black Forest was simply used to scare the local folks,” started Maxwell. “People are known to go missing and even killed in the foggy maze of the entangled forest for those who come upon the underground cove of the perpetrators. I’m not one to believe in legends like this, for I simply believe it is all-“
“What was that?” exclaimed Naomi, referring to the deafening snap that interrupted Maxwell.

“Do you guys see that light up ahead?” asked Charlie.

“What is it?” asked Mitchell.

“I don’t know, let’s go check it out” said Ryder.

Anticipation engulfed the foggy forest as the group shifted toward the direction of the unrevealed light source. The closer they got, unknown voices surfaced from the distance, making them feel uneasy. Walking ever so slowly, they come across an open field, where sitting in front of them was a small group of four, talking amongst themselves in a quiet fashion.

“I thought this forest wasn’t a popular forest to camp in?” questioned Ryder.

“It isn’t. I’ve been here before, and with all that is said about this forest, it is best to stay as far away as possible!” replied Charlie.

“Then why did you take us here!” Exclaimed Mitchell

“I thought it would be fun to see all of your reactions when I told you the story,” stated Charlie.

“No, you thought it would be fun to watch all of us get killed,” proclaimed Asher.

Frustrated, Ryder, Mitchell, and Asher make their way closer to the clearing, spying on what the other group was talking about.

“In this very forest, The Legend of the Black Forest was simply used to scare the local folks,” started a young man’s voice. ‘’People are known to go missing and even killed in the foggy maze of the entangled forest for those who come upon the underground cove of the perpetrators. I’m not one to believe in legends like this, for I simply believe it is all-“

“Guys, come on, there is no reason to be mad at me!” Yells Charlie as he runs up his friends. Not paying attention to his surroundings, Charlie trips over a branch landing on a few, snapping them in half.

“What was that,” Exclaims one of the girls in the other group, snapping her attention in the direction of the guys.

Charlie stumbled out from around the trees, Ryder, Mitchell and Asher shortly behind, as they attempted to save Charlie. Emylia, Naomi, and Jordyn jumped up, and ran behind Maxwell, frightened to see their visitors.

“Who are y’all?” yelled Maxwell.

“Dude, chill, we didn’t mean to scare y’all. We were just lost and saw the fire so we walked to see if we could find somebody,” explained Ryder.

“Well we wouldn’t have been scared if you had indicated that y’all coming up! A lot of unexplainable things happen in this forest!” yelled Maxwell.

“Believe me, I know. I’ve heard the legends way too many times,” said Charlie.

“Wait, you’ve heard of the legends before?” asked Emylia.

“I don’t live under a rock.”

“We were just getting ready to tell the legend to our friends here. They aren’t from here, so they aren’t familiar with it,” tells Emylia.

“I haven’t heard it under these conditions in forever! Can we join?” asked Charlie.

“Why not, y’all are already here.” Maxwell said. “Now where was I?”

Ryder, Charlie, Mitchell and Asher walked up to the fire and sat on an empty log closest to them while Emylia, Maxwell, Jordyn and Naomi went back to their original positions, as they braced themselves for the legend to begin.
