Ada wrestling takes fifth in Florida
The Ada Cougar wrestling team traveled to Fort Walton, Fla. to compete in the The Beast of the Beach tournament. The team itself won six duels placing fifth overall. Ada’s furthest venue for a tournament was previously Coppell, Texas.
The tournament was a dual tournament. Cougars first day at the seeding tournament they clinched 2nd seed. The next day Ada beat Tallahassee then lost their next dual to Wakulla Hs. In their next bracket they won out beating Auburn and Smiths Station Hs, ending the tournament placing 5th overall.
Senior wrestler Carter Patterson went 9-0 throughout the tournament.
Patterson said, “We thought we would show up and dominate the competition, and we did.”
Senior Dylan Fisher, feels the team is even more prepared now and high hopes for the team’s season.
“I feel like fifth place doesn’t show how well we wrestled. There were a few issues with the line up, and we had a few freshmen step up. We have a group of hard working guys, and I think if we were as conditioned then as we are now, we would win the tournament,” said Fisher.
While wrestling was the main focus of the trip, the team still managed to have fun along the way, even making time to enjoy the Florida sand and sun.
“The trip to Florida was a fun time with all my teammates and coaches,” said senior Hunter Specht.
The Ada Cougar wrestling team will host Carl Albert this week for senior night. Matches begin at 6:00p.m.
