Futuristic Cars of Tomorrow
It’s not just the next big movement in automotive technology; it’s the next big movement towards a better future. The hydrogen fuel cell car was predicted to be mass produced and available to the public around the year 2050, now in just 2014 Toyota has partnered with Japanese scientists to make a fuel cell stack small enough to fit inside the hood of a car, and powerful enough to be mistaken for a gas-burning hot-rod, but with the only particle emitted being water.
“How does a fuel cell vehicle work?” You might ask, and Toyota has an answer for their remarkable break-through in automotive technology.
“The fuel cell utilizes the same technology developed for our hybrid “synergy” drive systems but the gasoline engine is replaced with a fuel cell stack.”
“In a fuel cell, hydrogen gas combined with oxygen to create a chemical reaction that produces electricity, which is then used to power an electric motor and charge a battery.”
“Just as with a Toyota Prius, the power control unit in the fuel cell decides when the vehicle should be powered by fuel cell stack and when it should be powered by the battery.”
The fuel cell will come to market in 2015. No specific pricing has been set at this time, but it will be available and accessible to the public. Specific U.S. sales volume will be announced closer to launch but it will be a significant number.
