Music Review: Visual Kei
Visual Kei
Visual Kei is a Japanese music movement and is starting to become more popular in America. According to Google, Visual Kei started in the 1980’s, and the artist’s wear makeup, have elaborate hairstyles, and costumes, usually coupled with androgynous aesthetics.
Visual Kei music ranges from punk rock to heavy metal, like the band DIAURA and their song Shitsuyoku no Seiiki in English translation from WordPress.com is “A sacred place of lost wings”.
English lyrics:
An incomplete paradise sinks into a fleeting dream.
I’m sure that what remains drowned in the past, crowds that are mere simulations of real people.
An Escape from reality,
A vague sensation,
Because there is no meaning in merely coveting the past,
I want to erase it…And how many times should I kill my tears?
Visual Kei music breaks the languages between music and there is a lot of meaning behind the songs. At least everyone should listen to Visual Kei music at least once in there lives. I listen to Visual Kei because I love the way it sounds. It shows you how their music is very different from ours. When I am upset, I listen to it, and it makes me happy. When I listen to Visual Kei music, I get a sense of relief.
