Q: Where are you from/where did you go to high school?

A: I am from Poteau, Oklahoma.

Q: Where did you go to college?

A: [I graduated from] East Central with a bachelors of science and fine arts with a specialty in vocal music education.

Q: Is this your first year of teaching? If not, how many years have you been teaching?

A: No, this is my third year teaching actually. I was at Washington for two years, and I got moved up this year to the high school and junior high.

Q: What is your high school experience compared to what you see around Ada?

MA: [It’s] pretty similar. My high school is about the same size. We did not have a performing arts program, which I think is very cool that Ada does, but our choir [was] much bigger.

Q: What sparked your interest in music education as opposed to just singing in choirs?

A: I wanted to be a teacher since I was like, a second grader. I knew it’s what I wanted to do and that is really important, especially when you’re in the arts, to know what you actually want to do or if you want to teach it. It just has always been in me to want to teach it and to teach kids to love it as much as I did.

Q: How many plays have you auditioned for and performed in?

A: Over 50 *laughter* yeah, a bunch.

Q: What drew you to acting?

A: My teacher… I was involved in voice lessons when I was in junior high school, and my teacher also did a lot of theater stuff. She was kind of my mentor all through everything, really. And I joined a production of “Oklahoma.” I was in chorus for that one because I was an eighth grader I think, and I just loved it. I loved the community, loved working hard and having such a big  return in the production. I was kind of a shy kid too, so a big part was being on stage, being crazy, and being yourself, while being another person, is something I really loved.

Q; Is your love for theatre what lead you to being the assistant director for the performing arts program?

A: Yes, definitely and it has been awesome so far.

Q: Life after teaching? Is it a possibility?

A: “I’m sure I will probably be dead, life after teaching. But, I will probably be a mom and wife. I am married, and have been married for four years.

Q: After being an Ada Cougar for a while, what does that mean to you?

A: There is a lot of pride in being a Cougar, especially in Ada. A town Ada’s size is… I feel towns around this size, my high school and town was, are small enough that everyone kind of knows everyone and know who your Cougars are. So, it’s a big deal.
