Ada High pins competition
The New Year started off well for the Ada High wrestling team. On Jan. 9, Ada High traveled to McAlester for a tournament with positive results. Overall, Coach Kyle Bohannon was pleased with his team’s performance.
“Everyone got a lot of mat time which is important coming off Christmas break. We had several tough match ups that will benefit our guys when it comes time for regionals,” said Bohannon.
More than half of the competing wrestlers placed fifth place or above.
- Dylan Fisher received first place, competing at 106.
- Carter Patterson received third place, competing at 113.
- Jonathan Fuller received first, competing at 126.
- Brody MacDonald received second, competing at 160.
- Damion Hardcastle received fifth, competing at 195.
- Jonathan Cook received fourth, competing at Heavyweight.
The Cougar wrestling team has high hopes for the winning season to continue.
“I think the season’s gonna go pretty well. We’re one of the better teams out there,” said Sophomore, Garret Rhynes.
The McAlester tournament wasn’t the only recent competition at which the Ada wrestling team excelled. The Deer Creek competition also produced promising results. The team ranked sixth overall in the McAlester tournament and fourth in Coppell, Texas.
With the upcoming competitions against McLoud and Madill, the wrestling team is working harder then ever.
Bohannon plans for the team to continue their hard work.
“[There is] always room to improve to reach our goals,” said Bohannon
Even though the team has a few players out, they hope to have a full team soon.
