Ada High Cheer Squad has officially hired new coaches to take the lead this year.

The squad was previously led by Alyssa Rhodes. This summer Donnieta Ray and Ali Lawson took the reins until the school hired an official coach. Christy Brown recently joined the AHS staff as the new cheer coach, as well as the Cougar News Network teacher. Along side her, Ronnie Sherrell is teaming up with the squad to train them in tumbling, stunting and conditioning.

Ray, happy to pass down the cheer traditions to Brown and Sherrell, speaks highly of Brown.

“She has a lot of experience that she will be bringing to the organization.”

Brown and Sherrell are hoping to lead the squad to competitions in the future, but for now they will be focusing on getting the girls ready for their first game on Sept. 2.

Brown is looking forward to this year with the squad, composed of 17 girls. She already knows the direction she wants to take the squad.

“I want to keep traditions strong as ever, and I’d like to bring in new ones as well,” said Brown.

The squad this year has two senior captains, who are just as excited for the year as Brown and Sherrell. Lexie Speed and Destini Hammack are helping to teach the rest of the squad traditions that were passed down to them by their captains through the year.

Speed is especially excited for the year saying, “We have a great squad this year!”

All in all, everyone associated with Ada High Cheer is ready for this new beginning.
