Cross Country: May the Course Be With You
The 2014 season of cross country is under way. The team had their first meet of the season on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, in Putnam city.
The course was a whole new experience for runners who hadn’t previously encountered it. The course is spread out through a park, and it is also right next to a highway.
Nerves were tense as the team stepped onto the starting line. The starter said, “runners on your mark,” then blew the whistle. After that, there was no turning back. For the first couple of meets, runners just to try to set their own running pace.
The second meet of the year is the “Tiger Chase.” The Tiger Chase is set up and managed by ECU. In previous years, this meet was canceled due to inclement weather. However, this year was a different story. It was really cloudy, but it didn’t rain. The girls ran first and were successful, winning won first place. The guys ran really well; however, weren’t close enough to place.
