Cross Country: Are They Ready?

Cross Country season is about to begin, and a lot of people are asking whether or not they are ready.

The first cross country meet of the season is coming up on September 9th. When asked about how they are preparing for the upcoming meets, Head Coach, Coach Daniels responded saying, ” We’re working on a combination of Long Distance/Speed/Pace Work.”

There are several challenges the team might face during this season. Weather is always a big factor while running. Temperatures rising up to 100 degrees make training very difficult.  Injuries are often seen in almost every sport, and cross country is no exception.

The cross country teams may run up to 3 miles during practice.  Other practices may include pace-work, which is making sure runners run the same time on every lap or close to the same time.   Practices may also include sprints and speed work, just trying to make that time a little faster than before.

Coach Daniels said ” Deer-creek is one of our main rivals.” This year is going to be a good year for Ada High Cross Country.
