April 4, 2016, the cougar call staff attended Oklahoma Scholastic Media, (OSM) for high school journalism. As they set out on their journey, little did they know that they would return to Ada with eleven state championships, and over ten more awards for second and third places. Ada High teacher, Jamie Weston, adviser of the Cougar Call, also attended the meeting and happened to come home with her own prestigious award.

Weston has been teaching for a total of eight years, five years teaching in college, and three years at Ada High. Right now, she is an AP English III teacher, and she runs the schools newspaper, along with her staff.

At the end of the OSM awards ceremony, the award for All-Around adviser of the year award was presented to Ms. Weston. In the month of February, Weston wrote a letter to OSM, describing why she dedicates so much time to the program. “I have a background in journalism, so it’s always been something I’m interested in. The students increase my dedication by being dedicated themselves. I work to make sure their talents and successes are recognized.” said Weston.

Jamie Weston not only strives to make our journalism better but also helps with anything else her students need.

“I’m in a program called Upward Bound and every year we have a summer program. In order to attend this program, you have to have a teacher fill out a seventy question packet that describes you as a person. Mrs. Weston offered to do it without hesitation and never complained about it once. I’m so grateful for everything that she has done for me.” -Heather Manuel

Jamie Weston built the Journalism branch from the ground up. She wrote grants and spent time researching just to make the Journalism what it is today.

“Without Weston,” the journalism staff says, “we wouldn’t be where we are today. Weston is more than just a teacher, she is a role model that inspires us to be more conscious, selfless, and modest.”

“Thank you Mrs. Weston, for believing in us all the way down to state! We most definitely appreciate all of the hard work and dedication that you have put into us, our class and our success.” – AHS Cougar Call staff.
